Leading the League: Sidney Ventura’s Editorial Vision Takes The GAME to New Heights as the Editor-in-Chief

In a significant move, the title is geared to take a bolder leap this 2024 with a new editorial lead taking the helm.

The GAME Magazine, recognized as One MEGA Group Inc.’s (OMGI) premier sports lifestyle brand, appoints Sidney Ventura as its Editor-in-Chief (EIC). With a rich background in sports journalism spanning over two decades, Ventura brings to the fore a new vision and direction that is poised to change the game.

A Career in Sports Journalism

Ventura has always revolved around the sports scene, cementing his status as an authority in the field. Armed with a journalism degree from University of the Philippines and fueled by an early passion for sports, Ventura’s prowess stands unparalleled. He narrates, “I became a PBA fan at an early age, and the first section of the newspaper I would read was the sports section. I then became an avid fan and since I’ve always enjoyed writing — it was an easy decision for me to pursue this career.”

His illustrious journey began in the early 2000s when he started writing weekly sports columns for Inquirer.net. Not long after, his byline became a regular in more prominent college basketball columns. Ventura took a stride in his career with Yahoo Philippines, landing the role of Sports Editor, and eventually transitioning to TV5, handling the network’s websites as Managing Editor. Leveraging his expertise, he also co-founded his own sports website and podcast to showcase his passion for the local sports community.

The GAME Magazine in 2024

Looking forward to his leadership with the title, Ventura states his primary vision — to make The GAME the leading sports lifestyle website in the country. This vision is not just limited to reporting scores and statistics, but also continuing to celebrate the true spirit of sports, the very foundation of the brand.

In achieving this goal, Ventura unveils his roadmap with a three-pronged approach: “First, I plan to expand the editorial team with the desire to produce more relevant content. Second, I aspire to pivot more to feature articles without abandoning the lifestyle DNA. Third, I want to position The GAME as a go-to source for Filipino sports enthusiasts.” Also grasping the landscape of today’s digital age, Ventura extends his strategy to social media, where he plans to maximize engagement with core audiences, establishing The GAME’s footprint.

Ventura as the new EIC marks an exciting new chapter for The GAME Magazine. With big directions ahead, he is set to lead the publication into a new era of sports journalism, upgrading the overall sports experience for Filipino athletes, fans, and the community.
