Alcazaren holds degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and a Master’s degree in Urban Design from the National University of Singapore. A registered Landscape Architect and Environmental Planner, he has led nearly 250 projects across 14 countries, shaping master plans, civic spaces, parks, and waterfront developments throughout the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, China, and other parts of the globe.
His contributions to design discourse have earned him prestigious recognitions, including the Alab ng Haraya Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the CCP Gawad para sa Sining for Architecture. An award-winning writer and photographer, he has authored and edited several books and has written a long-running column on architecture and urbanism since 1999.
“Paulo Alcazaren brings a depth of perspective that elevates BluPrint beyond inspiration into influence,” shares Apples Aberin, OMGI Vice President for Lifestyle Media Brands. “His thought leadership ensures that BluPrint actively shapes conversations around sustainability, heritage, urban futures, and Filipino identity—aligning with our mission to shape culture, instill pride of place, and contribute to nation-building.”
At the heart of this direction, Alcazaren emphasizes the priorities facing the industry today: “Architecture and design in the Philippines must focus on three ‘Cs’—cultural specificity, continuing education, and creative innovation. Filipino designers must appreciate the people and culture they are designing for, the built heritage of the past, and the local context of site, climate, and materials, while maintaining a thirst for knowledge and exposure to global best practices. This approach ensures that BluPrint remains relevant for a new generation of designers and continues to inspire readers across generations. All these BluPrint can deliver.”
Alcazaren previously served as BluPrint’s Editor-in-Chief from 2002 to 2012, guiding the publication through a defining decade. With his return, BluPrint will continue to strengthen its role in advancing architecture and design narratives in the Philippines and across the region.
